While they may not all get practiced currently, it is important to consider that these rituals and ceremonies play a major role in the Malay women’s rich cultural heritage.

The Man Makes his way To The Bride’s House

Once the groom has received permission to enter the bride’s house from her wali or kadi, he will be accompanied by a kompang ( drums- beating festival) adorned with bunga manggar, hand petals crafted of tinsel on bamboo poles that signify fertility and wealth. His friends and family will also take bunga rampai, a concoction of blossoms and pandan leaves that symbolize the woman’s blessings.

Before the wedding is allowed to see his wedding, he will be stopped by relatives and friends who does challenge him malaysian wives with tasks like as reciting pantuns, forking out dollars, dancing or singing. This is known as the hadang or gatecrashing service. Upon successfully completing these challenges, the groom will be granted permission to enter the bride’s house and receive her mas kahwin, a compulsory donation that signifies his accountability to provide for her and his new household.

Once he has entered the house, the groom will be welcomed with a makan bersanding where guests and members of both families will serve the newlyweds. This is a chance for the family to thank them for their hospitality as well as to offer their best wishes and blessings to the couple.
